Planning to build a log cabin yourself? Here are some DIY tips to help you. Firstly, get a log house kit. It comes with good log cabin plans. Now draw out a sketch as per your requirements. But first, clear the plot from the unwanted rocks, bushes or trees. The area would be an even land with a sloping end for proper drainage.
Then, arrange for the logs according to your house plan. Shape them finely and remove their knots, branches and barks. You can also rub the sandpaper to bring a polished look for the logs. Now dig holes and push the log posts inside with reinforced concrete.
Then set up joists and beams for the main floor and settle it with wood panels or plywood. Now, start stacking the logs horizontally to build up the walls. Use lumber for the roof and place plywood under it for the ceiling. Then put tin sheet over the roof. Finally, finish it up with necessary furnishing and fixtures.
A log house can be used as a good retirement home, away from city noise.
